William the Conqueror নরমান বিজয়ের মাধ্যমে ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের মধ্যে যুগের সূত্রপাত হয়। Norman Duke William 1066 সালে England দখল করেন, ফলে শুরু হয় ইংল্যান্ডে নরমানদের রাজত্ব। ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের ইতিহাস অর্থাৎ ১০৬৬ থেকে ১৫০০ সময়কালকে Middle Age বলা হয়। সাহিত্যের Development বিবেচনায় ঐ সময়কালকে তিনটি ছোট ছোট কালে ভাগ করা হয়। The Middle English Period is divided into three parts - 1. The Anglo- Norman Period (1066-1340) 2. The Age of Chaucer (1340-1400) 3. Age of Barren or Dark age (1400-1500) Important Information of Middle English Period : 1. ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে Anglo Sexon যুগকে Old English Period বলে। ৫ম শতাব্দীতে ইংল্যান্ডের শাসনে ছিল ইংলিশ উপজাতি। সে সময় জার্মানি থেকে Jute, Angles and Sexon, রা ইংল্যান্ডে এসে ইংলিশ উপজাতিদের পরাজিত করেন। সেই সময় শুরু হয় Anglo-Sexon যুগের। ইংরেজি সাহিত্যে সূচনায় কবি ও তাদের কাব্যে - সাহিত্যের অলংকার পাওয়া যায়। তবে বেশির ভাগ কাব্য ও কবিতার কবিদের নাম জানা যায় নি। সেরকম বেশ কিছু কাব্য, মহাকাব্য ও কবিতা অজ্ঞাত কবিদের দ্বারা রচিত হয়েছে, কিন্তু ইংরেজি সাহিত্যেকে করেছে সমৃদ্ধ। তাদের মধ্যে Beowolf অন্যতম। এছাড়া পাওয়া যায় - 1.
